In 1930, Tom Tatum Senior founded Tatum Brothers Lumber Company in Northern Mississippi. He started with a peckerwood mill and cut pine framing.
His sons, Tom Tatum Jr and Charles Tatum, carried on the family business. They have been at their current location in Lawtey, FL since 1963. Their location in the Southern Pine Belt has been a very important part of their formula for success.
Later, Tom’s sons, Tom III and John, bought partnerships in the company. Today the plant consists of a sawmill, two planer mills and a shop.
The four owners have unique specialties that fit together to make a dynamic team. Tom III is the supervisor of the sawmill, John manages the planer mill, Tom Jr oversees the shop and maintenance, and Charles is the salesman and logistics specialist. These men all strive to exude a sense of honesty, respect and family loyalty. The determination to produce a consisten product is the core of their business model. Tatum Brothers Lumber Company continues to manufacture a top quality product after 90 years in the timber business.
